“Tropic Thunder” knocked “Dark Knight” off the No.1 spot

“Tropic Thunder“, with Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black and Tom Cruise, knocked “The Dark Knight” off the No. 1 spot after 4 weeks on top.

“The Dark Knight” pulled in $16.8 million to raise its total to $471.5 million. It passed the original “Star Wars” ($461 million) and stands as No. 2 on the all-time domestic charts, behind “Titanic” ($600.8 million).

“Tropic Thunder” is an action comedy about a group of self-absorbed actors who set out to make the most expensive war film. After ballooning costs force the studio to cancel the movie, the frustrated director refuses to stop shooting, leading his cast into the jungles of Southeast Asia, where they encounter real bad guys.
